Shakespeare Coursework Titus Andronicus Paired Presentation

Question to be answered in your presentation:

Explore how and why the character of Titus changes between Act 1 scene 1 and Act 5 scene 3 of Titus Andronicus. Consider:

  • The language Shakespeare gives to certain characters in these scenes, the techniques he uses and the effects they have on the audience
  • The structure of these scenes
  • How Shakespeare’s writing may have been influenced by his social, cultural and historical context

How to prepare your paired presentation

1. Re-read your two sets of typed notes on Titus’s character in Act 1 scene 1 and Act 5 scenes 2 & 3, plus the plot/character summaries and any extra notes you have made in class.

2. Plan the introduction to your presentation. Treat it like an essay introduction. You need to address the question in a similar way to an essay: give an overview of how and why Titus’s character changes between Act 1 and Act 5, the kind of techniques Shakespeare uses, the effect of the play on an audience and how the Elizabethan context influenced Shakespeare’s writing of this play overall. Both of you should contribute to and present this equally.

3. Plan the main presentation. Treat it like an essay (such as the one you wrote on ‘A Modest Proposal’). You should present some close linguistic and structural analysis of the three key scenes, referring to the question as often as...
