This pack is to be used in conjunction with the ENGA3 paper set in June 2012, currently available on eAQA under ‘secure key materials’ (although without the texts for the Language Change question*). It will support exam preparation and practice in a structured and scaffolded way.

Although mock exams have a place, it is also helpful to offer supported practice rather than risking students either feeling incapable when first faced with a full paper, or producing work which falls considerably short. The philosophy behind this pack is simply to support students to help them to produce decent answers and to develop skills in approaching exam questions while doing so. The exemplar model answers and range of extracts for improvement will give students a focus to work on their skills.

* Note that both texts for the Language Change question can be found online.

Text A is on the page http://sugardaddie.com/linksmenu.htm It is on the right hand side of the page, three paragraphs long and begins “The fancy sports car, the exceptionally large home…” and ends “to their desires as well!”

Text B is at http://www.ehow.com/how_2063647_be-trophy-wife.html Note that step 3 was removed from the text in the exam. The paper included the introduction that begins “Sure, being a trophy wife ...” and the remaining steps (renumbered 1-5).
