ELLA3 Adaptation of Texts for an Audience (A House Somewhere) Sample Answer (Jan 2013)

This answer does a good job of using the source material and transforming it for a contemporary audience, but it could do with some improvements in terms of style.

Tourism Brings Brunetto New Life

Once sadly presented in washed-out clothes that had seen better days, Brunetto il Piccolo is now never seen to be anything less than stylish. Manicured and clutching his new favourite accessory, a stylish brown leather handbag, his new found style is thanks to the tourism in his area. It’s clear that tourism is what has brought him from the edge of poverty to wealth and comfort.

Brunetto il Piccolo is the go-to guy for property leasing, putting his natural social gifts to good use to earn himself a good living after a lifetime of hardship. You’ll find him these days in the piazza, strategically located between the local bar and the tabaccheria, helping a wide range of people to find holiday property to let, or helping property owners find the clients they need. He has a rival, positioned opposite him, but this man’s social skills leave something to be desired - attempting to grope potential clients is not generally well received - and Brunetto is perfectly happy to reap the benefits of this man’s poor self-control.
