Six Week Outline

Aims

  • For students to enjoy reading the play and appreciate it as a drama text.
  • For students to gain confidence in their understanding and dramatic use of characters, dramatic techniques, structure, form and writer’s use of language (i.e. for the purposes of both the entertaining plot and the persuasive themes).
  • For students to understand how to show imagination and critical understanding.
  • For students to show effective evidence in their written responses utilising the PEE chain.

Literature Assessment Objectives

OCR

Pupils should be taught to:

  • AO1: Respond to texts critically and imaginatively; select and evaluate relevant textual detail to illustrate and support interpretations.
  • AO2: Explain how language, structure and form contribute to writers’ presentation of ideas, themes and settings.

Edexcel

Pupils should be taught to:

  • AO1: Respond to texts critically and imaginatively; select and evaluate relevant textual detail to illustrate and support interpretations.
  • AO3: Make comparisons and explain links between texts, evaluating writers’ different ways of expressing meaning and achieving effects.
  • AO4: Relate texts to their social, cultural and historical contexts; explain how texts have been influential and significant to self and other readers in different contexts and at different times.
