Question 5

Your Local Tourist Office has asked you to write a description of the area you live in so as to point out its attractions to visitors.

In your description you should:

  • Select and describe the relevant features
  • Say why they are attractive
  • Say why visitors would enjoy them

Write an article for a teenage magazine advising young people how to react when they feel they have been treated unfairly or dishonestly.
In your article you should:

  • Give some examples of what such treatment might be
  • Suggest some of the feelings young people might have in the circumstances
  • Give some advice on how they should react

Generic band descriptors


Candidates should demonstrate that they can:

Band 5 ‘controlled’ ‘effective’

Mark 17-20


  • A response which demonstrates complete and confident control of the material and awareness of the audience, purpose and form
  • Tone, style and register are effectively selected and sustained
  • Structure and grammar are used to create a range of effects and support coherent development of the response
  • The response is shaped for impact, with effective use of structural features
