Revising the skills for AQA Language Paper One - Tibbets

The Tibbets Paper 1 was sat in the Summer of 2018.

The second of our feedback documents this is a booklet which can be printed off for all of your students after sitting the exam for them to gain skills to apply in their next attempt.

The Tibbets Paper 1 was sat in the Summer of 2018. Question 1 suggestions

  • Pick a paragraph and write four things you learn in that paragraph- focus on facts.

  • Pick a paragraph and write about how the writer uses language to describe the events/people in that paragraph- focus on language devices.

  • Consider the whole story- how does the writer use structure to interest the reader?

Question 4

  • ‘The writer brings the events of the story to life’
  • ‘The main character behaved in a ridiculous way, and their problems have been brought on by themselves.’
  • ‘The situation that has arisen has only come about due to poor planning, if people had been more organised, it wouldn’t have happened.’
  • ‘The main character isn’t to blame for their situation- but instead the blame lies with many other people.’

Pick a statement above and evaluate to what extent do you agree. Consider the writer’s methods.
