Agreement

Agreement is an aspect of English grammar. Within a clause structure certain words need to ‘agree’ with each other in various senses. For example, in certain circumstances, a verb can be called finite because it is linked to a subject. We call it ‘finite’ because, when it is linked to a subject, the verb shows aspects of tense and number – and this is done by being given the verb an inflexion.

Finite verbs are inflected to show tense, e.g. ‘she talked’, number, e.g. ‘they run’ and person, e.g. ‘he runs’.
