Mood / modality

‘Mood’ is an aspect of English verbs which we use when we need to suggest that an action is potential rather than actual. It is created in a verb phrase through the use of a modal auxiliary – a kind of auxiliary verb, e.g. ‘He might win’ or ‘She could go’.
